ANEXCAL Botanical Report - Subject M-47

The attractive hues of M-47 contain a mystery that will require further study to fully understand. Specifically, the flavonids and carotenoids found within it should produce a flower that is a dark orange an light brown in coloration - a far cry from the bright blue and purple that it seems to uniformly possess.

Extensive testing in a laboratory setting has not revealed any explanation, and thus my thoughts have begun to wander towards the possibility that Calyx itself is altering our perception of color in a way that we are unable to detect or compensate for. We have run the tests hundreds of times - these flowers are dark orange and brown. I strongly recommend that we do not consider a name for this organism that is ried to coloration, lest we foster confision when samples of it are brought back to Earth only to discover that they suddenly appear as per our measurements.

Sincerely,
Lt. Terence Davies (HORNET)
ANEXCAL scientific Command.

The Moon Blossom was a flowering plant native to watery areas of Calyx. Despite not being protected from harvest by expeditionary regulations, the soothing color of its petals spurred an atypical level of unofficial conservation by industrial staff who would typically leave it in place while plucking less attractive specimens for use as fuel
